Immaculate Conception High School

Summer Reading Challenge 2008

Format:

This year, in order to further illustrate that reading is both important and essential in all subject areas, Immaculate Conception is offering a new and innovative program to its students.

Listed below are the summer reading choices for each grade level. You must select one of these books to.  You MAY choose to read TWO of these books.  For every book you read, you may take an objective test on that book. If you pass the objective test, you will earn 5points. Those 5 points can be added to the 1st marking period average of YOUR CHOICE!  The grade you receive on the summer reading test will count as a grade for your English class. The 5 points can be applied to the 1st marking period average in ANY class.

5 points is a lot of points. It’s the difference between a 60% and a 65%. That’s the difference between passing and failing.  It is also the difference between an 85% and a 90%. That’s the difference between being an A student or a B student.

Like so many other things in life, the choice is yours. It’s up to you to take advantage of this opportunity.

 Rules:

There are some general rules to follow:

  1. No more than 5 points can be applied to one subject area.
  2. Points may NOT be divided among subject areas (eg: 1 point for math, 2 points for science, etc).
  3. The maximum number of books you can read is 2, so the maximum number of averages you can increase is 2.
  4. In order to prove you have read the book, you  must pass your summer reading test with a grade higher than 74%.
